When the super nice Patty Laurel asked us to make a Tondo cake, we couldn’t wait to start making it.
I grew up oblivious to what happened in Tondo, but media portrayed the place as dangerous and dingy. Unfortunately, that’s what I grew up with. When I grew older, I’ve met people who lived in Tondo and I have actually gone to Tondo several times. I learned that it’s just as Filipino as anywhere in the metro. You’ve got kids enjoying street games, and women with their rollers chitchatting with the friendly, neighbourhood sari-sari store ale. You have the tanod (patrollers) going around, also taking their occasional breaks, and the askals generally chillin’ around.
Thanks, Patty, for allowing us to be a part of such a wonderful event! We had so much fun making this cake for the kids 🙂
Because Starwars fans can tell! 😀
I was given free reign on what to put on this cake and I’ve been wanting to do this cake for months!!!
Can anyone tell me which Starwars episodes these came from?!?!

If you want to know what happens when giraffes and squirrels are given spaghetti, donuts given to foxes, and rainbow cakes given to lions, you will enjoy these funny little creatures that have gone wild in Rocco’s party!
Styled by the super duper nice Kaye Garcia, this party was such a beautiful oxymoron of party animals in a chic setting of browns, greens and whites.
Whoa, that’s a lot of photos. Anyway, we had so much fun making up the characters of these cheeky animals, and we were so blessed with Rocco’s mom, Debbie, who just let our imagination run wild for Rocco’s cake! Thanks again Debbie and Kaye! Loved, LOVED working with you and your awesome party theme 😀
A couple of weeks ago, my dad and his college friends got on a boat, and probably had the most exciting Tubbataha dive trip ever. They were on a WWF boat (trip was for research), and had the most experienced dive masters on board. With the regret of not bringing his wonderful daughters along, he promised to put together another trip next summer, but of course, we have to practice diving to guarantee the best experience! Woohoo. That said, we round up a couple of our friends for a frazzle-free Anilao dive. 🙂 Nothing complicated, just pretty little fish and a house reef to die for ❤
But until next year, we’re just gonna have to dream of what my dad and his friends saw- big fish, sharks and rays! (Which might have been something like what are on these cupcakes!) Enjoy the rest of the summer, everyone! 😀
Like I said last week, here’s a nursery rhyme inspired cake! And yes, the baby is hanging on a tree ❤
When my client requested for a nursery rhyme cake, the first thing that came into my mind was a cow jumping over a moon. But then, she wanted specifically, Rock-a-bye, baby theme, and I LOVE that she said she wanted something for a baby girl, but not pink!
So there, no pink, but I tried to make it as girly as I possibly could. Well, I guess without pink, I had to focus on making it adorable 😀
And yes, I couldn’t stop at a baby on a cradle, so to add more life, I put these curious little critters to entertain the little baby! After all, it’s kinda boring when you’re hanging up on a tree.
So there 😀 This, I think stands as one of my favourites because it’s so simple ❤
Next week, I think we’ll rest from tree cakes. I’m still thinking of what to post, but I have a feeling, Imma choose something bippity boppity boo. 😀
’til next week!
Let me start by being frank. The next few cakes you will see will probably have a tree on it. It’s been something I’ve been so fondly practicing, and by for some reason, I’ve been blessed by cakes wherein I can incorporate them! Haha.
So here’s a Vintage Winnie the Pooh inspired cake set that I did. I personally don’t like doing character cakes because it somewhat limits the imagination, and though we get to put our own twists in the characters, it’s easier to get disappointed. But not this cake! When we first received this inquiry, I was a bit worried because I knew I had to stray from the usual shapes, but was excited because the colour palette was beautiful, don’t you agree?
One of the most difficult things to do when doing characters is making them come alive.
Piglet and Winnie the Pooh
And fortunately, I found an old Winnie the Pooh poetry book in Booksale which I already put in our decorating studio mini library. It had what my cake needed, but what I realised though, Tigger wasn’t in it! So I had to research and find a way to put him there simply because my client requested for it! I researched for the vintage Tigger, but saw that he wasn’t cute enough, hehe, so I just recreated a more modern one hoping it wouldn’t stand out too much!
So anyway, the cake design, we simply cascaded to the cookies and cupcakes 😀 Amazing what a couple of flowers can do for a cupcake!
So that’s it for this week! Next week, I’ll probably post another cake with a tree, inspired by a nursery rhyme!! Yay 😀
